It’s no secret that our education system needs help. In fact, most people agree that our country’s public school system is in need of serious reform, especially when it comes to our math and science programs. Recent studies have shown that we are falling behind the rest of the world when it comes to students graduating from high school with knowledge in these subjects. However, we still don’t see any kind of significant change in our curriculum or teaching strategies, despite widespread protests and vocal calls from teachers and parents alike to make changes. This begs the question, why are we waiting on the government to come up with a solution? The transformation of education begins with teachers is the theme for the World Teachers Day for the year 2022. Let us now see how teachers can act as the agents of the desired change in education.

Teacher Happiness and Retention

Teachers are one of the most important individuals in an individual’s life and deserve to be happy at their job. Teachers who are happy with their jobs will do a better job and will stay longer, so it is important to work on the teacher’s happiness.

There are many things that can make a teacher happy, but one thing that always makes teachers happy is recognition for a good job. Another way to make teachers happy is by giving them more time for themselves.

Career Pathways

What are Career Pathways? Careers pathways are clear and structured path that guides students to their desired profession. The goal is to make sure students know what they need to do in order to enter a particular profession, the skills they need, and what it will look like when they graduate. This means creating a curriculum that is not only rigorous but also relevant and engaging. It’s about making sure that students have a clear vision of the type of work they want to do before they graduate.

Community Connectedness

It’s important for teachers to be a part of their community. They should attend school events and know their parents. This will build trust and help the kids feel safe. When teachers are actively engaged in the community, they will have a better understanding of what is going on with the students outside of school which will lead to better relationships in the classroom.

Individualized Learning

Rather than being taught the same lesson, in the same way, students can now be given an individualized education by teachers who are able to tailor their lessons to suit each student’s needs. This is done through a variety of methods such as giving students choice on what they want to learn and when they want to learn it and developing programs that focus on different learning styles.

Students taking ownership

Students will be able to take ownership of their education by getting help from teachers and parents. They will have the opportunity to choose what they want to learn, how they want to do it, and when they want it. Students should not only be the customers but also the producers of education. This new system will transform education as we know it.

Invest in Digital Skills for All Students

Today, almost every job and career is impacted by digital skills. From coding to data analytics, students need to know how to adapt to this ever-changing world. But many schools are not providing enough time for teachers to keep up with the changes—let alone teach them. That’s why we’re investing in Digital Skills for All Students. We believe that when teachers have the resources and support they need, our children will be ready for a more innovative tomorrow.

Always Be Improving

As educators, we are in a unique position to be leaders and advocates for change in our schools. We have the power to teach our students how to think critically, explore their creativity, and collaborate with others. But we can’t do it alone.

Conclusion

Teaching is an incredibly demanding job, and as a result, it is more and more difficult to find qualified people to take on the task. I believe that if we want a better future for education, we need to make teaching easier in order to attract more qualified candidates. It is obvious that the transformation of education begins with teachers.

This is the theme for this year’s world teachers’ day. Teachers are indeed the agent of education transformation, but to transform education, teachers need to be empowered.
